What a split route booking is and why it matters

A split route booking occurs when the same accommodation appears on more than one route within a single booking. This article explains what that means, how it affects what you see in itrvl, and why it matters for the team.
Also known as: two route booking, duplicate accommodation, split party, multiple routes, booking out of order
What is a split route booking
In Window, a booking can have more than one route. This is common when:
A party splits and travels different legs of a trip
The same accommodation appears at different points in the journey on separate routes
A transfer or additional night is added on a second route
When this happens, itrvl reads each route separately. If the same accommodation appears on two routes, itrvl will display it twice as if it were two different properties.
What you will see in itrvl
In a standard booking, itrvl displays line items in chronological order — day one, day four, day seven, and so on. In a split route booking this order breaks down. You may see line items appearing out of sequence — for example day 13, then day 1, then day 17.

This happens because itrvl is reading two separate routes and does not automatically know how to merge them into a single chronological view.
Why it matters
A booking that is out of sequence affects:
The client portal — the itinerary the agent shares with the client will appear out of order
The video itinerary — duplicate accommodations will appear twice in the video
The detailed itinerary PDF — the day-by-day view will be incorrect
The booking process — an unsequenced booking can prevent costing from processing correctly in Window
What to do about it
There are two things that may need to be fixed depending on what is affected:
For the video itinerary — duplicate accommodations can be turned off in the video configuration in Presentation Editor. See: Regenerating the video itinerary

For the itinerary order — the booking needs to be resequenced in Window using the Sequence Check tool before the itinerary will display correctly in itrvl. See: How to resequence a split route booking
Important: A booking that is out of sequence should be fixed before any client-facing documents are downloaded or shared. An out of order itinerary will cause confusion for the agent and client.
